Why Go Now?

There are many arguments that can be given as to why a Christ-follower should be involved in missions. And there have been many discussions about whether a person is "called" to be a missionary. As I ponder all of the arguments and discussions, I keep coming back to God's Word. It is in His Word that I find the answer to the question, "Why go now?" So, instead of presenting to you my arguments or reasons, I ask that you let the Spirit speak to you as you read these verses.

"Go into all the world and preach the Gospel to all creation." - Mark 16:15

Go because of God's love.

"This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him."

1 John 4:9

Go if you believe Christ died for all peoples.

"For Christ's love compels us, since we have reached this conclusion: if One died for all, then all died... Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ: certain that God is appealing through us, we plead on Christ's behalf, 'Be reconciled to God.'"

2 Corinthians 5:14 & 20

Go because you want others to hear.

"How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? As it is written, 'How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!'"

Romans 10:14-15

Go because people are ready to respond.

"Do you not say, 'Four months more and then the harvest?' I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest. Even now the reaper draws his wages, even now he harvests the crop for eternal life, so that the sower and the reaper may be glad together."

John 4:35-36

Go that every nation, tribe, people and language can join in worshipping God!

"There before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and in front of the Lamb."

Revelation 7:9

Go because, as a Christ-follower, you are called.

"Then Jesus came to them and said, 'All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.'"

Matthew 28:18-20
